I’ve been freelancing for 25 years, surviving the dot-com bust, the 2008 Great Recession, COVID and every platform hype cycle since. During that time I’ve worked with clients ranging from local shops to massive companies like Apple. This program is a distillation of everything I’ve learned on that steep trail to the Summit.

Your freelance expedition in 3 stages:

The reality, named plainly

You did everything right. The ceiling is still there.

You put in the years. You got genuinely good at the work. And the deal around the work kept getting worse.

Maybe you’re on the platforms, bidding against the largest labor pool ever assembled while the fees climb. Maybe you’re an agency’s permanent contractor, a 1099 on somebody else’s client roster, doing the work that wins the account while the agency owns the relationship and the margin. Maybe you’re still employed, watching your craft get hollowed out by layoffs and AI mandates, and planning your exit with more caution than the people around you seem to think it deserves.

Different situations, one shape: someone between you and the client sets your price, owns your pipeline, and collects the difference. You were smart to take these deals when they served you. The problem is what they quietly cost once you outgrow them.

The numbers say the quiet part plainly. The average U.S. freelancer earns just under $100,000 a year. The average Upwork rate works out to roughly $45,000 for a full-time year, before fees. Same skills. The difference is position: who owns the client, who sets the price, who keeps the margin.

Why this program exists

Your skill was never the problem. Your position is.

Craft skill is the ticket to the game. Position is how the game pays out. And position is built from a specific set of business decisions most practitioners were never taught to make: what niche you serve, what offer you productize, what price the math actually requires, how clients find you without a middleman, and what operations keep it all running while you do the billable work.

That layer is learnable. I know because I learned it the slow way, 25 years of freelancing through two recessions, every mistake included, until the system underneath it became clear. The Summit Program is that system, taught in order, with the tools to execute each step and mentors checking the work.

Here’s the thing about the advice market: craft help is everywhere and mostly free. Credible senior guidance on the business of freelancing, landing direct clients, pricing with a spine, structuring offers, is scarce, and the loudest voices online are too often selling the treadmill they claim to help you escape. Filling that gap is the entire reason Freelance Mentors exists.

The route to the top

Eight milestones. Real deliverables. A business at the end.

The program is sequenced the way a real transition actually goes. Each milestone pairs training with a working tool, and each ends with a deliverable, a real business asset you keep, not a certificate. By the final milestone the deliverables stack into the thing itself: a positioned, priced, operating practice.

The differentiator

We guide your journey with mentors who’ve made the climb.

Anyone can record a course. What can’t be conjured is a network of senior freelancers, people who actually built owned practices in your field, reviewing your niche strategy, your pricing, your portfolio, and telling you the truth about them.

That’s the Summit Program’s spine. Vetted mentors are active throughout the program and the community, focused on the business side where credible guidance is scarcest. Mentorship here is earned and continuously vetted: a mentor’s standing comes from a track record of feedback that actually helped members, and members who prove themselves become the next mentors. The network compounds; a course never does.

You finish the milestones. You never age out of the room.

Mentors in your field

Senior freelancers who built owned practices in the lead craft roles, reviewing the work that decides whether your transition sticks.

Business-side guidance

Focused where the free advice runs out: niche, pricing, offers, and direct-client acquisition, not more craft tutorials.

Earned, vetted, real

Standing comes from a track record of feedback that helped members. Prove yourself, and you become the next mentor.

Purpose-built for experienced practitioners

You’ve got the skill set, we provide the system.

This is for you if

  • You have a real, sellable craft skill and years of practice behind it, in design, development, writing, marketing, video, 3D, or a related discipline
  • You're earning with that skill now, on platforms, through an agency, or in a job, and you've hit the ceiling that position puts on you
  • You want a deliberate, planned transition to direct clients, and you're willing to do the unglamorous work that makes it stick
  • You can invest real hours weekly and see the program through; the guarantee is built around completion, and so are the results

This isn’t for you if

  • You need income this month. The program assumes runway; a forced leap is the exact situation it exists to prevent. Start with the free toolkits and the hubs, they cost nothing and they'll serve you better right now
  • You're hoping freelancing is easy money. It's a business, and this is a program for people who intend to run one
  • Your plan is consulting on general business strategy rather than a craft practice; the training doesn't support that path yet

One price. Everything included. Lifetime.

Priced as what it is: a professional program, bought once.

Assembled separately, a year of group coaching, a comparable course library, and subscriptions to tools that do what these do, you’d pass $4,700 without matching the integration or the mentors. I’d rather charge a serious price once than rent you a subscription designed to never finish its job.

Two honest notes on affordability. For many members the cost is a deductible business or professional-education expense, that depends on your situation, so confirm it with your tax advisor. And measured against the work you already sell, the math is short: price out what one well-scoped specialized project bills in your field, and compare.

The price ladder, written down

The First Ascent price is $1,500. It steps to $1,950, then $2,500, as the program’s public proof accrues. Written here so the deadline is real: prices on this page only move up, and never quietly.

Questions a careful buyer asks

I'm already freelancing. Is this going to teach me things I know?

If you're earning through platforms or an agency, you know the craft and you know how to deliver. The program's center of gravity is the layer those positions never required you to build: niche selection, productized offers, pricing power, and direct-client acquisition.

Milestone one will feel like review; milestone three is usually where working freelancers meet the material they were missing.

How much time does it take?

Plan on four to six hours a week; most members complete the program in four to six months. It's built for people with jobs and client work, and lifetime access means the pace is yours. The coaching calls repeat weekly.

Will this work for my field?

The program is craft-agnostic by design and the mentors span the lead roles: web and software development, design, marketing, copy, video, 3D, and adjacent disciplines. The method, niche, offer, price, acquisition, is the same system regardless of craft; the mentors and examples make it specific.

What about AI?

Honestly: AI is eliminating low-value generalist work, and no program can stop that. What it hasn't touched is the value of a specialist a client trusts with a specific, expensive problem.

The program's entire thesis, specialize, productize, price on value, is the strategy that holds up under AI pressure, and we address it directly in the training.

What does "lifetime access" actually mean?

One purchase. The milestones, the full toolkit suite, the community, and every tool and milestone we ship later. No renewal, no maintenance fee.

Why a one-time price instead of a subscription?

Because the program's goal is graduation. A subscription business needs you to stay subscribed; we need you to finish, land clients, and eventually mentor the people behind you. The incentives only line up one way, and we picked it.

How does the guarantee actually work?

Complete all eight milestones and their deliverables; if you haven't landed a new paying client within 60 days of completion, book the refund session and we either fix what's stuck or refund you in full. Terms are in plain English above, nothing lives in fine print.

What happens after I finish?

The Mentor Network. Graduates stay in the community, and the ones with a track record of genuinely helping others earn mentor standing.

A paid 1:1 mentor marketplace is in development for the network's next phase, included members will hear about it first.

The mission

Why I built this

I’ve been a professional freelancer for over 25 years, and I’ve made a great living working on fun projects with clients like Apple, Microsoft and Nestlé. Perhaps best of all, I’ve built a career that enables my family to do what WE love and value - traveling all over the world!

But believe me, getting here wasn’t easy. For the first several years, freelancing was really hard for me. I struggled to earn good money, made countless mistakes, lost good clients because I didn’t know what I was doing, and I learned many tough lessons the hard way.

But then I started to get the hang of things. I started to learn what worked and what did not. I learned what clients truly value, and how to run my business in a way that attracts and retains great clients, while keeping the “bad” clients in check. I pulled myself off the never-ending treadmill of gig-hunting and replaced it with a sustainable, profitable, FUN business.

The good news is that YOU don’t have to learn any of those lessons the hard way like I did!

I created Freelance Mentors to help people just like you to take control over your financial future, while avoiding the stress, frustration and hardship that many new freelancers face. My Six-Figure Freelancer Training Course is the cheat code I wish I had when I started freelancing 25 years ago.
